Conventionally no, myspace removed the ability to put a tracker or any code in the headline and have it work on people who you are private to.

If you are using profile 2.0, you can do this though, by putting the tracker in the headline and then setting all your modules to friends only.

In profile 1.0 this is possible through a special method detailed at www.profiletracker.us that I won't share cause it's a great site.

if you're using some software from the company that tracks or checks your work, it could be possible for the company to know your activities but if there's none then nothing to worry

keep on playing poker :)

You ask "Can they": yes.
Would you have asked "would they": probably not.

Typically your IT department will have administrative privileges on your laptop. This allows them to do a whole bunch of things - possibly pre-emptively by installing something, but just as easily remotely at a later moment.

Bottom line: don't use company equipment for stuff you don't want your boss to know.

Assuming there is no company-sanctioned spyware installed on your machine it is doubtful while the machine is in your possession. All bets are off if you hand the machine in for whatever reason but in private browsing mode you should be at least reasonably secure.

Technically if they really wanted to, they could when you logged in via the VPN or go into the office and log in to the network.

Is it a lot of work? Yes
Is it something IT would do without reason? No

Unless you hand over the physical computer to them and give reason for them to investigate, bets are that you won't have to worry.

I know for myself being an Network Administrator, when I come across thing's like that, myself and colleagues in the same field just turn a blind eye, because:

1.We have better things to do unless specifically requested to investigate.
2. If it's not threatening the security of the company network or wasting network bandwidth, we don't really care, it's not our responsibility to watch over how everybody spends their time.

Rest easy :)

It is possible to monitor any traffic that passes through and autonomous system. However, if you do this browsing on your own connection and not through VPN it cannot be monitored live. The they could track would be your history and cookies, but that is stored on the local machine, so unless your computers are audited to check for content I wouldn't worry about that.

*Note* This doesn't include 3rd party monitoring software that could very well be installed.

it's certainly possible, there are programs that can be installed on the computer to report activity regardless of what program you are running. Since it is a laptop provided by the company monitoring software could be installed. I know we don't install anything like that on our machines but it would certainly be allowed withing the usage policy.

Answer #1 was good - until we got your Additional Details. :-(

Sorry I've no idea, but I just wonder if you've tried with your Preferences/Connection set to "no proxies" instead ?
